Insulating your Home this Winter to Keep Heating Costs Lower

With energy prices on the rise, something that we are all aware of as winter arrives is keeping warm without spending a fortune. As well as simply being comfortable, being in a warm home means that we are less likely to succumb to cold related health conditions like pneumonia and bronchitis, which are particularly dangerous to elderly people, those who have other health conditions and elderly people.

Something that will make your home warmer and reduce how much you need to spend on your heating is insulation. Keeping your home warm is much easier when it is well insulated, and there are lots of things that you can do to insulate your home, which will vary depending on things like the age of your home, the materials it is built from and the layout.

The loft is an obvious place to start, if you haven’t already had insulation put into your loft now is the time to think about it. Because heat rises, a lot of heat can be lost through the roof of the home, so it is one of the most important parts to insulate. Have a look at government grants and schemes that may help you with the cost of getting your loft insulated.

Windows are another weak area when it comes to heat loss. If you have windows that are faulty, then you could well be losing a lot of heat. You can have windows replaced to ensure that they are keeping the heat in, or if this is too expensive an option, there are lots of nifty tips and tricks that you can use to temporarily block draughts from getting in through your windows. Keeping the curtains closed will also help to prevent excess heat being lost through the window.
