How to speed up your laptop

Use the following steps to make your laptop faster.

  1. Close the system tray programmes

Some software continues to run after you click the X at the top right corner. They simply minimize the system tray, and continue running in the background.

Click the upward arrow on your screen to find and close them. Click the right-click button to close or quit any of the programmes in this pop-up.

  1. Stop running programmes on startup

The installation wizard has a checkbox that allows the software to run automatically when your computer is turned on. Each piece of software you add to your computer that runs automatically at startup can increase the load time. You should review these apps, and limit them to the essential apps required for startup.

Right-click on the taskbar, and then select Task manager. You can view the Startup Tab to see each item that is run at startup.

  1. Update Windows drivers and applications

Updating software is important for your security, but can also improve performance. Windows will notify you automatically when a new update is available. Just make sure that you don’t put it off.

Click on Settings to check if your system is up-to-date. Go to Windows update.
