A CCTV Drain Survey is a simple, non-invasive method to determine the condition of drains. The survey provides conclusive evidence of any problems within the drains and enables a repair to be properly quoted and scheduled.
Locating the Access Point
The operative gains access to the pipe via a suitable manhole or rodding eye, and notes the pipe material, diameter and flow direction. All defects are recorded against fixed starting conditions allowing the reader to fully understand the findings of the survey.
What the Camera Records
The camera records continual video and notes all findings in real time as they travel along the length of the pipe such as the material of construction i.e. clay, concrete, PVC etc. plus the joint centres and any root intrusion or cracking of the pipe walls. Also any blockages or obstructions such as old blockages which may have caused local damage to the pipe. The camera also records the exact distance from the point of entry to any defects or observations found.
How Defects Are Graded
Each defect identified is graded using WRc standard condition codes. The code given to a joint displaced by a few mm will be different to that of a partially collapsed pipe for example. The severity of the defect is clearly identified allowing the repairer to determine whether items require monitoring, lining or excavation.
The Written Survey Report
The written survey report details each defect found within the drain with reference to the distance from the point of access. The defect is then given a condition code along with a recommended course of action. This allows a contractor to quote for any required work off the survey report.
